Devon Tread 2: More Understated but Still Just as Sexy

Following the success of the Tread 1—the watch that tells the time using belts—Devon unveils the Tread 2.
Drawing on aeronautical culture, the engineers at the American brand built on the Tread 1 technology, whose movement—made up of two micromotors—drives the nylon bands that display the time. At the heart of the machine, a microcontroller ensures the watch’s accuracy, which allows for only half a second of deviation per day.
The articulated arm, in place of a crown, allows you to set the watch and display the seconds or minutes.
The movement is powered by a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery, charged on a dock like an iPod. The power reserve is therefore generous for this mechanical/battery hybrid watch, reaching two weeks.
The case, in 316L stainless steel, measures 38 mm wide by 42 mm high, with a thickness of 14.5 mm. Tested at Baselworld 2012, the black rubber strap is comfortable to wear, and dial legibility is excellent thanks to a 1 mm-thick sapphire crystal.
Available from July 2012
Price: around €7,600 (more accessible than its big sister, the Tread 1, available from €12,500)
