Breva Génie 03: The First Mechanical Watch with an Anemometer

Here is one of the most original complications in watchmaking. The Breva brand is launching its Génie 03 watch, equipped with a complication that should delight kitesurfers, windsurfers, sailors and other athletes whose sport depends on the wind.
That complication is the anemometer: an instrument used to measure wind speed. The watch displays on its dial wind speeds ranging from 5 to 65 knots.
A refresher for boat-licence holders who have forgotten their basics (I include myself in that group): the watch measures from Force 1 (very light air) to Force 7 (near gale) on the Beaufort scale.
The dial features a blue sapphire-glass counter with three hands (hours, minutes and seconds) at 8 o’clock. The openworked dial reveals the micro-rotor, reminiscent of a compass rose.
The case, crafted in Grade 5 titanium with a transparent caseback, is water-resistant to 30 metres whether the anemometer is open or not.
The movement delivers a 70-hour power reserve.
The price? Around €50,000.
We had already appreciated the Breva Génie 01, but here is yet another splendid creation from this young watchmaking house.
