Alain Delon’s Watches at Auction

Alain Delon’s watch collection will go under the hammer on 5 April 2012 at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild.

The Samurai of Spring (now in his 76th year), as he is nicknamed in the Land of the Rising Sun, admits that he “prefers to take care of it now” and that he “hates posthumous sales”.

Besides, Alain Delon doesn’t need watches: he decides what time it is.

The auction house Cornette de Saint Cyr is once again in charge of the sale. Let us recall that Alain Delon had already put the great vintages from his cellar up for sale, as well as part of his art collection.

The sale catalogue is not yet available, but there is already talk of Cartier, Rolex, Vacheron Constantin, Blancpain, Audemars-Piguet, Breitling, Festina… Can you spot the odd one out that I slipped into this non-exhaustive list?

The collection will be exhibited in Hong Kong to capitalise on Alain Delon’s fame in China and provide a perfect target audience for the sale. Cornette de Saint Cyr adds:

“Delon has become a common noun in China, synonymous with male beauty among young Chinese people. The catalogue will be bilingual, French-Chinese”.

The most coveted piece is undoubtedly the Royal Oak worn in the films Comme un Boomerang, Parole de flic and Ne réveillez pas un flic qui dort.

Update of 10 May: the sale brought in €443,875 and every watch found a buyer (around a hundred in total).
