The World’s Fastest Watch: TAG Heuer Mikrotimer Flying 1000

Tag Heuer has pulled off a feat with its Mikrotimer Flying 1000: the world’s first mechanical chronograph capable of displaying thousandths of a second.
You are quite literally hypnotised by the speed of the hand on this concept watch, spinning at an impressive clip—as the video at the end of the article, showing the watch in action, clearly attests.
Out goes the Tag Heuer Carrera Mikrograph 1/100th of a second chronograph: the Mikrotimer Flying 1000, unveiled at the Basel fair (Baselworld), is 10 times more precise.
Tag Heuer has delivered a masterstroke, allowing the brand to position itself as the leader in ultra-high frequencies in the world of mechanical watchmaking, with a frequency of 500 hertz and 3,600,000 vibrations per hour.
The CEO of Tag Heuer, Jean-Christophe Babin, is delighted:
“It’s revolutionary! With this model, 125 times more precise than the most high-performing chronographs on the market, we are pushing the limits of mechanical watchmaking—we are reaching the extremes of this art.”
Unprecedented in watchmaking, no fewer than 11 patents are currently being filed for this jewel of technology.
For the time being, the Tag Heuer Mikrotimer Flying 1000 is not slated for commercial release but, if you feel so inclined, this one-off piece will require its buyer to part with 980,000 Swiss francs.
