Romain Jerome’s Moon Orbiter

Moon Orbiter RJ-Romain Jerome

It is common knowledge that Manuel Emch, the head of RJ-Romain Jerome, doesn’t have his head in the clouds, but well beyond the stratosphere. Proof comes in the form of the Moon Orbiter, Romain Jerome’s new watch.

This new timepiece expands the Moon-DNA collection, which notably includes the Moon-Dust, a watch whose dial contains moon dust.

It features a highly atypical design, with a surprisingly wide case measuring nearly 49 mm across, 45 mm in height and 20 mm thick.

Imposing in size, the case—made of steel and Apollo 11 elements—gives way to transparency, with its five crystals revealing an impressive movement. Worth noting in passing are the piston-mounted lugs (the parts that connect the case to the strap), which are reminiscent of 1970s sci-fi spacecraft.

The dial offers excellent legibility, with a counter at 3 o’clock displaying hours and minutes via red-lacquered skeleton hands (a pity they weren’t treated with red Super-LumiNova for reading the time in the dark).

Before moving on to the watch’s jewel, located to the left of the dial, let’s mention the power-reserve indicator (42 hours), set in its own sub-dial at 6 o’clock. The slider indicates the power reserve between the + and – poles.

Now to the superb flying tourbillon at 9 o’clock. Usually positioned at the centre, the tourbillon here is off-centred and kept in orbit by a 3D arm that evokes a launch pad. This technical feat can be admired from every angle thanks to the five crystals mentioned above.

Also worth noting is the dial’s stellar and lunar cut-out, which also contains moon dust.

The Moon Orbiter watch is produced in a limited edition of 25 pieces and sold at a price of €99,000 (CHF 107,000).
