MoonMachine by MB&F

MB&F unveils its MoonMachines! Unofficially presented at Baselworld 2012, the world watch and jewellery fair (reports from my visit here), the Moon Machine is a new timepiece in the MB&F Performance Art collection, whose concept is to invite an artist to reinterpret one of the brand’s models.
Maximilian Büsser commissioned Finnish artist Stepan Sarpaneva to create this piece, which adds a new complication to MB&F watches: the moonphase display.
The designer had the simple idea of rotating an HM3 Frog by 90°, and the talent to add a splendid moonphase indicator to the dial.
The movement is a Girard-Perregaux base “tuned” by Stepan.
For the record, the two “moon” faces are inspired by Stepan Sarpaneva’s own visage.
His choice fell on Horological Machine No.3 because it offered enough space to integrate his moon faces, as well as the 22-carat gold rotor disc adorned with laser-cut star shapes.
The two domes housing the hours and minutes are reminiscent of lunar habitats as imagined in science-fiction works.
The Moon Machine watch is available in three limited editions of 18 pieces each:
- Titanium case, white-gold moons, light-blue sky.
- Black titanium case, white-gold moons, dark-blue sky
- Rose-gold case, red-gold moons, anthracite sky
