James Bond’s Rolex Up for Auction

Rolex James Bond 007

James Bond’s watch is going under the hammer at Christie’s in Geneva. The Rolex Submariner worn by Roger Moore in Live and Let Die, released in 1973 and directed by Guy Hamilton (you couldn’t make it up), is being auctioned with an expert estimate of between €160,000 and €323,000.

Roger Moore wasn’t the first to wear a Submariner. Before him, Sean Connery in Dr. No was already wearing a Rolex—and not just any Rolex, as it was the James Bond Rolex Submariner 6538, which has also set price records at auction. The watch is powered by the calibre 1030, renowned for its rock-solid reliability.

Faithful “Q” doesn’t appear in the film, but the watch is nonetheless fitted with a rotating saw and a magnet to deflect bullets—though Bond uses it instead to undress Mrs Caruso at the beginning of the film.

Much to the dismay of Sean Connery fans, the case is signed “Roger Moore 007”.
