Hublot Masterpiece MP-02 Key of Time

The Hublot brand has developed a special collection called MasterPiece, devoted exclusively to exceptional complicated watches.

Exceptional, thanks to the research and development required to create them and the originality of the concepts developed.

In January 2010, Hublot unveiled the first model in this prestigious collection: the MP-01.

The Hublot MP-01 came in the form of a titanium tonneau-shaped watch featuring a shaped chronograph, of which only 100 examples were produced.

On the occasion of Baselworld 2011, the Basel World Watch and Jewellery Show, Hublot lifted the veil on the new model in the Master Piece collection, named the MP-02 Key of Time.

The MP02 concept offers its owner the ability to make time glide at will. To do so, the crown has three positions to vary the flow of time. One might then question the usefulness of such a watch. Yet it touches on the very essence of watchmaking which, by combining different disciplines (design, mechanics, chemistry through the use of metals and alloys, etc.), becomes an Art through the concepts it develops—since the flight of time and its measurement has been a concern of Humanity since the earliest civilisations. It is through this prism that watchmaking should be considered.

In position 1: the speed of the hands is divided by 4. A quarter of an hour corresponds to a normal hour, so you can take the time to savour the passing seconds on the watch.
In position 2: the watch runs in normal mode.
In position 3: the hands travel around the dial 4 times faster than normal. A normal quarter of an hour becomes an hour on the MP-02 Key of Time.

How does the Hublot MP-02 Key of Time work?
The technological feat lies in the mechanical memory embedded in the watch’s movement.

An ultimate flourish: the tourbillon automatique cage is vertical and flying, making it possible to display the seconds on the caseband (see photo below).
