Chanel J12 Chromatic Watch: A New J12
The now-mythical Chanel J12 takes on a new colour thanks to a new material: titanium ceramic. This edition, named J12 Chromatic, was unveiled at BaselWorld 2011.
Chanel’s watchmaking division is reinforcing its position as a leader in the use of ceramic in watch design—leadership born in 2000 with the launch of the first J12 (read our article on J12 watches).
While black and white were colours dear to Gabrielle Chanel, the house remains true to her spirit by offering a new shade whose reflections shift harmoniously between the two depending on the light.
Titanium ceramic offers resistance close to that of sapphire. Manufacturing techniques previously unseen in watchmaking, drawn from the arcane art of sapphire polishing, are used to achieve this result.
Chanel is delighted with this new creation, which breathes fresh life into the fabulous J12.
Seven models have thus been dressed in titanium ceramic:
- J12 Chromatic 33 mm quartz movement
- J12 Chromatic 38 mm and 41 mm automatic movement, available in versions set with round or baguette diamonds
