New Slimline Moonphase Manufacture by Frederique Constant

The Slimline Moonphase from Frederique Constant is back in the spotlight with a new in-house movement.
I’ve always liked this watch—so much so that I nearly bought the version with the blue dial and strap.
The Stas couple’s policy of making Frederique Constant independent from movement suppliers has paid off, with 24 calibres now on the scoreboard.
It has to be said: this is one of the most interesting brands in terms of development strategy. The advantages are numerous: control of costs and lead times, easier after-sales service, technical flexibility, etc.
Let’s leave the business side behind and get back to the product. The new Slimline Moonphase is equipped with the manufacture movement FC-702.
This new movement makes it possible to display the moon phases and the date in two separate subdials.

The previous version combined the date and moon phases in a single subdial at 6 o’clock, as below.

Out goes the blue (what a disappointment—it was splendid! Maybe they’ll hear me ;)), and the watch is available with a silvered or black dial.
The 38.8 mm case comes in steel or rose gold-plated. The caseback is transparent so you can admire the manufacture movement, reassuring you about your purchase every time you look at it.

The result on the dial is elegant, but I’m hard-pressed to say where my preference lies between the previous version and the new one. What about you?
