Only Watch: an auction of exceptional watches

On the occasion of Only Watch, a charity auction of exceptional watches whose proceeds support research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Richard Mille will donate an extraordinary piece: the prototype RM 27-02 Rafael Nadal.

This unique watch was worn during the Grand Slam tournaments (some would say 2015 wasn’t his year 🙂 ).

This hard-hitting piece took the punishment of Nadal’s racket impacts without flinching thanks to its NTPT carbon construction. The tourbillon is capable of withstanding shocks of 5,000 G!

The “winner” of the sale will also be presented with the outfit worn by Rafael Nadal at the US Open, signed by the champion.

Let us recall that at the 2013 edition of Only Watch, the Richard Mille Tourbillon Yohan Blake watch was hammered down at €350,000.

The sale will take place on 07 November 2015 in Geneva.

Estimating a watch’s value: the criteria

Estimating a watch is a crucial step in the process of selling or acquiring a timepiece. It is a professional assessment aimed at determining the watch’s approximate value on the market. This estimate is based on several key factors that influence demand, rarity and the watch’s overall condition.

First of all, the brand and model of the watch play a decisive role in its valuation. Well-known, prestigious watch brands are often associated with higher prices, as they benefit from a strong reputation and an exceptional watchmaking heritage. Likewise, certain iconic or limited models are highly sought after by collectors, which drives their estimated value up.

Next, the watch’s overall condition is a key factor. A well-maintained watch, with its case and bracelet in good condition, will command a higher estimate. Vintage watches in good working order, with original components, are also highly prized on the market.

Rarity is also an important element to consider when valuing a watch. If a model is produced in limited quantities or is difficult to find on the market, its estimate can be significantly increased due to its scarcity. Watchmaking complications, such as tourbillons, perpetual calendars or chronographs, can also influence the estimate, as they require additional technical know-how and expertise.

Finally, the watch’s history and provenance can also affect its valuation. If a watch was previously owned by a famous personality or has a particular story, this can generate greater interest among buyers and increase its value.

It is important to note that a watch estimate is only an approximate assessment, and the final price may vary depending on bidding or negotiations between the parties involved. Calling on watch experts or reputable auction houses is often recommended in order to obtain an accurate and reliable estimate.

In conclusion, having your watch valued is based on various factors such as the brand, model, condition, rarity and history. It is a complex process that requires in-depth knowledge of the watch market and expertise in the field. Whether buying, selling or simply assessing a watch’s value, a professional valuation is essential for making informed decisions and achieving a fair price.
