Eight years after launching its first automatic chronograph, Patek Philippe unveils its new Annual Calendar Chronograph at Baselworld 2014.

A single counter and three large apertures gave it a very distinctive identity. That might seem like a minor detail—if this version weren’t… in steel! A material that contrasts with the previous versions in rose gold and platinum.

Steel is usually reserved for Patek’s sportiest lines (Aquanaut and Nautilus). The choice is so surprising that one almost forgets the high-calibre mechanics powering this annual calendar chronograph.

The column-wheel chronograph offers a power reserve—indicated at 12 o’clock—of 45 to 55 hours. The annual calendar, with its three Day/Date/Month windows, therefore requires only a single adjustment per year, in February.

From the centre outwards, the single counter displays the day/night indicator, the 30-to-60-minute totaliser, the 0-to-30-minute scale, and the 12-hour totaliser.

The 40.5 mm steel case is water-resistant to 30 metres.

The dial is available in anthracite or silvered.

The bracelet is in steel with “drop”-shaped links and a folding clasp.
