Nixon The Automatic Chronograph

Nixon Automatic II Chrono

Nixon introduces the Nixon The Automatic Chronograph, a chronograph version of The Automatic II. Arriving alongside the brand’s move upmarket via the Elite collection, this new watch—unveiled at Baselword 2012 (the World Watch and Jewellery Show)—is limited to just 60 pieces.

While the Automatic II featured an automatic movement—the ETA 2836—the Nixon The Automatic Chronograph houses a Swiss-made Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement, a proven, robust choice, here in its 25-jewel version.

Logically—though I don’t have the information to hand—the power reserve should be 48 hours.

The 44 mm case, water-resistant to 200 metres, is in brushed black steel, as are the crown (at 9 o’clock) and the pushers (at 8 and 10 o’clock), also in brushed black steel.

The screw-down bezel is in polished tungsten to ensure good shock resistance and to protect the anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The watch’s movement is visible through the transparent caseback.

At its centre, the dial features a fine, circular guilloché pattern that is not unlike a vinyl record. The three chronograph sub-dials, positioned at 12, 3 and 6 o’clock, are highly legible against their black background.

The hour and seconds hands, as well as the white indices, are treated with Super-LumiNova for optimal legibility at night.

As for the strap, the watch is delivered with a crocodile leather strap fitted with a folding clasp and a brushed black steel bracelet.

The price is €4,800. Yes.
